My Challenges Help me more Than my Clients

I Run 3 challenges every year:

  1. A 90 Day New Year Kick Off Challenges with my Fitness Programs
  2. A 4 Week Gallon Challenge utilizing the Herbalife Nutrition Products
  3. a 6 Week Challenge Incorporating my Fitness Programs WITH the herbalife nutrition products

We are mid way through week 2 of 4, of my Gallon Challenge with my herbalife ladies and I am reminded daily about why these challenges benefit me more than everyone else.  I mean yes, I coach everyone personally and my accountability chat is a challenge favorite, but the one who truly sees motivation and gets inspired daily is me.

  • Seeing how everyone motivates each other is such a beautiful thing.  It really does show how people are inherently genuine and authentic.  Everyone wants everyone to do well and get used to this lifestyle change and establish a healthy balance.
  • I love getting recipe, snack, and meal ideas from all of the ladies
  • I stay in check with my own meal plan and exercise routine.  After all what kind of a coach and leader am I if I don’t get on my own goals.  For example I had been getting comfortable only making it to the gym 3 times, when I know I would personally benefit from 4-5 times per week on the program I’m on.  Seeing how one of my fit moms and a full time student who is also working full time (dejavu) made it to their 5 day goals the first week has pushed me to make sure I get my 5 days in as well!  Whenever I feel like overindulging, I think of all of my challengers learning how to establish their balance and learn to choose healthy 80% of the time, my desire to indulge dwindles.
  • Our weekly check ins add more fuel to my fire seeing how much progress everyone makes in just one week including my self is just a motivational bonus!
  • I am always grateful for those who choose me as their coach and allow me to guide them on their journey, but if only they knew they’re the ones that inspire me to keep going when I lose my own motivation.

Love Capris? So do we!

Have you ever gone shopping for a pair of capris and been disappointed because of either of the following?

  • Transparent
  • Color fades after a few cycles through the washer and the drier
  • fuzzies between your inner thighs
  • loose fit
  • you can see the sweat in the unflattering areas during your workout
  • Weird Cut off angle

If you answered yes to any of the above, you NEED a pair of your own LetlerFit leggings

  • Our capris are NOT transparent, you can squat in peace!
  • Our color and designs do not fade
  • Thick thighs, rub all you want because our leggings do not get those ugly fuzz balls
  • Our capris are made with compression material for a tight fit that has been scientifically proven to increase blood flow during your workout and help with your recovery.  So you can wear them to the gym or to the mall and your legs will reap the compression benefits
  • We use the best dri fit material (Not the dri fit material that gets stinky with sweat) and you will never see the sweat. Who else hates butt sweat?
  • We also make all of our capris with SPF 50 UVA/UVB protection.  Why is this important? UV rays can seep through your capris and damage your skin.   With LetlerFit capris your legs are protected indoors and outdoors!
  • Our leggings are infused with Vitamin E for up to 25 washes to help keep the sweat from drying up your skin.  This why we have gotten so many comments and emails saying “my legs feel so soft after taking them off!”
  • All of our capris are unique and produced in limited quantities meaning once they sell out, you are left with your own unique pair of LetlerFit capris!
  • Our Capris also cut off at the perfect length! Not too short, and not too long.

Haven’t check out our capris yet?  Click Here to Shop all LetlerFit Capris and remember if you see a pair you love ACT FAST because we get way too many emails asking for styles to be brought back because they didn’t buy their pair in time.

Finding the Right Shoe

Have you ever gone to the gym and felt some sharp pains in your arches from doing different exercises?

If you don’t have an undiagnosed condition or have one that has already been diagnosed like plantar fasciitis or heel spurs (at that point a podiatrist will usually create your own pair of custom orthotics) chances are you’re wearing the wrong shoe!  In my almost 2 years of working at New Balance in South Miami I learned a lot about fitting people for the right shoes, and have recently noticed people wearing the wrong shoes at the gym, or even clients complaining about pains in their arches.  So it inspired me to right these simple tips.

  • Shoes for Weightlifting:  Weightlifting shoes typically are flat or on a flat, but have elevated heels.  This is because shoes with arch support typically cause instability during lifts, which causes an unnecessary strain on your ankles and knees & the ligaments.
  • Shoes for Flat Arches (aka flat feet):  People with flat arches, require shoes that have a lot of arch support in order to create a false arch.  This is especially important when going on a run
  • Shoes for High Arches:  People with High arches get lucky because they don’t really require shoes with technology.  people with high arches can use neutral shoes with padding for arches or cross training shoes for regular workouts
  • Shoes for Regular Arch: People who have a normal arch can use neutral shoes with cushion for running or shoes with a slight arch support

Remember this was a basic rundown on how to pick your shoes, if you feel you have high maintenance arches I recommend seeing a podiatrist for the best recommendations or a New Balance Fit Specialist.

Unfortunately sometimes these shoes are not attractive, but at the end of the day are you really going to choose vanity over practicality? It is crucial we invest in the right running shoes, after all our arches basically carry our entire body weight!

Resistance Band Training

Resistance bands are one of the oldest exercising tools used in both fitness and rehab that recently have also been gaining more and more popularity.

Similarly to their free weight counterparts (i.e. Dumbbells & Barbells) resistance bands provide some degree of resistance, they allow for free range of motion, and variable movement speed. Also like free weights, they provide progressive resistance (meaning resistance can be added).

Unlike free weights, resistance bands do not rely on gravity to provide resistance, they provide continuous tension, and it also become more difficult to cheat the exercises with resistance bands as momentum can to always be used to your advantage.  Another great benefit to using resistance bands is that they provide linear variable resistance meaning that as the range of motion on the bands increases, so does the level of resistance.

Aside from the aforementioned resistance bands are great because they are

  1. Cost Effective
  2. provide great total body workouts
  3. Travel Friendly
  4. Easy Storage
  5. Provide variable training
  6. No training partners needed (i.e. spotters)
  7. Can be combined with other equipment during the workout (i.e. Dumbbells and barbells for added resistance.

My favorite resistance bands on the market right now are the ones sold by bforebands because their bands are incredibly variable.  you can interchange the bands to be attached to any anchors, the doors, ankle wraps, and regular handles.  They also have lateral bands which are great for resistance leg and glute exercises!

Why I don’t do New Year Resolutions

We are now 10 days into 2016, and some people are holding strong to their resolutions, some are losing focus, and others have already given up.  Last year I can personally say I was happy to have completed 75% of my 2015 goals.  That’s right, goals.  I hate using the word resolution.  There’s really no power behind the word other than “resolving” a problem.  Usually when resolving problems people relate it to quickly solving a problem, finding a one step solution to the problem.  Goals in my opinion is a word that you can put much more meaning behind.  There are short and long term goals, some require more or less action steps then others, but if you carefully plan out your goals with mini milestones suddenly they become much more achievable.

We all know that when the new year roles around the majority of people are focused on health, fitness, and financial goals.  “This year I am going to double my income.” “This year I am going to start saving money/save more money.” “This year I am going to lose 20 pounds.” “This year I am going to stop eating chocolate.” Ok, great.  How do you plan on doing that? What makes last year different from this year in terms of not being able to follow through with your “resolutions?”

Quick disclaimer: The following is a set of generic examples and does not include every single resolution out their or the exact steps you need to take to achieve your resolution, or how I prefer, your goal!  This is 100% my opinion/advice. I am also fully aware these are only a generic 4 goals out of the millions you can make for yourself.  My goal for this blog is to inspire you to create the necessary action steps needed to reach all of your 2016 goals.

So let me start with my first example: “This year I am going to double my income.”  If you work for someone, have you thought about what you have to change in terms of work ethic and value that you are bringing to the table in order for your boss to even want to consider doubling your income?  If so, have you set weekly/monthly goals for those steps? Do you run your own business? If so, what are you going to COMMIT to doing differently this year? Have you made your weekly/monthly goals?

On to my next example: “This year I am going to start saving/save more money.” If you didn’t save last year because of a personal problem like medical issues, job issues, whatever it is.  It’s a good thing this year you get a fresh start! If you didn’t get a chance to start saving because you value the $2,000 rolex more than you value your savings account, well that sounds like a priority problems.  Look at your expenses from last year and honestly evaluate where you think you overspent or unnecessarily spent and start from there! Instead of spending you money there invest it elsewhere or save up so you can reinvest that money into something that will give you a return.

Third example and fourth example combined: “This year I am going to lose 20 pounds.” “This year I am going to stop eating chocolate.” Analyze you’re eating habits from last year.  Do you just constantly make unhealthy choices, are you a binge dieter, are you an anxious eater? First things first, be 100% authentic with yourself about why you could not reach your fitness goals last year or why you had to make this years fitness goals.  Secondly, if you’re going on a “diet” do yourself a favor and remove that word from your vocabulary. Diets are temporary, lifestyle is forever. Instead of overwhelming yourself with trying to go 100% into the healthy eating I recommend making small changes.  The following are a few examples.

  1. Switch that bag of chips for an apple with nut butter.
  2. Swap the milk chocolate for dark chocolate
  3. swap the soda for juice and slowly start cutting them out and replacing it with water
  4. make it a goal to increase your water intake
  5. switch our the white carbs for whole grain carbs
  6. swap fried with baked/grilled

Again, there are many ways for your to slowly transition into a healthier lifestyle as it usually does not happen over night.  Those are just 6 quick suggestions.

How do I keep myself accountable for my own goals? I break them down into the following categories

  1. Academic goals
  2. Athletic/Performance Goals
  3. Business Goals (a sub category for both businesses)
  4. Financial Goals
  5. Certification goals to further my knowledge and accred ability while I am working towards my BS in Exercise Science with a minor in nutrition and MS In Nutrition and Dietetics.

I get 2 sheets of paper and write down every single goal that applies to each category and then tack the 2 papers next to the door in my room so that every day I am reminded about my goals. In my agenda (Im old school) I have my weekly and monthly goals.  At the end of each month I analyze what worked, what didn’t work, how I did compared to my goals, if I surpassed my goals, and then I adjust next months goals accordingly.  I do the same thing at the end of every year and thats how I make my goals for the following year.

Now go and crush those 2016 GOALS! I wish you the most successful of years!
